Vampire Diaries - Paleyfest 2010 - Paul Wesley / Nina Dobrev / Ian Somerhalder

Dobrev, 23, the actress behind the lovable character "Elena", revealed tons of interesting details about next season of "TVD" in an interview at Us Weekly New York City office Friday. She talked about how her character's (Elena’s) surprising transformation would be portrayed during season 4 of the hit TV series airing this fall.

In season 3 finale on Thursday, Elena Gilbert quite suddenly and accidently becomes immortal. When Elena, played by Dobrev, drowns, she forced Stefan, played by Paul Wesley, to save Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig) instead of saving her. Elena's friends think that she has died, but they are wrong in their presumption because Elena has vampire blood in her and now she will be with Stefan, Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) and Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola) as a vampire in the upcoming season.

Dobrev, who also plays Katherine Pierce in the series, told Us Weekly about her role as a vampire, saying, "I liked having one human and one vampire, because then I get the best of worlds and I get to do a variety of things.”

She further said that she finds her new challenging role quite appealing and is looking forward to playing it. "But, then again, it is going to be different for me and it's going to be challenge. It's going to be more fun to sort of explore that world," said Dobrev.

Dobrev also shared details about the "changing" experience and revealed to Us Weekly, "We're definitely going to see her whole transition into becoming a vampire. We're not going to skip over it, as we have with others.”

She also talked about her character, Elena, and that what would become of her traits as a vampire. She said, "Becoming a vampire, everything you feel is heightened. We know what Elena is like. She has high morals and she looks out for other people.”

"So what's Elena going to be like with those things accentuated?" she asked.

Dobrev also told that her best friend, teen witch Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham), would not be happy about the transition. She explained, "Their relationship is probably going to be so strained because of that. Her best friend, the one person she's been fighting to protect, is now what she's been fighting against all this time.”

"It is going to be interesting," Dobrev added.

Before her death, Elena also makes a painful decision when she picks Stefan instead of Damon. She talked about the love triangle and fan reaction, saying, “It does kind of feel like you’re disappointing half the people. But you’re always going to disappoint half the people with this kind of storyline. I think we gave them both what they wanted at some point or another during the season, so it’s not like we shunned them or disregarded their wants.”

Two problems with her theory. One, there are twice as many D/E fans as S/E fans, so a lot more than half the viewers were disappointed. Two, the D/E fans didn't get what they wanted at all. They wanted to see D/E in a real relationship. They got two kisses, that Elena disregarded in the very next scene both times. I feel as though the writers think if they just toss the D/E fans some scraps every now and again, they'll keep watching. It won't work forever. They can't even call it a love triangle. It's "always been Stefan." At some point, Buffy's rating's took a nose dive because viewers found it too painful to watch Spike get tortured anymore. Same thing's gonna happen here.
