Los Angeles police have detained Alpha Lorenzo Walker and his girlfriend Tamara Eileen Diaz for investigation until a judge decides whether there was enough evidence for them to stand trial, after the two tried to extort money from singer Stevie Wonder, BBC said.
According to LA district attorney spokeswoman Jane Robison, the two threatened the famous singer they would reveal ‘embarrassing information’ about him if their demands for money were not met.
She said detectives organized a sting operation and the two were arrested but they denied the accusations, with Walker identifying himself as a relative of the singer.
Police had not released further details about the investigation but a preliminary hearing was set on 16 of May.
Stevie Wonder is ‘the most ever for a solo artist’ to win 25 Grammy awards, releasing a string of critically-acclaimed album since his first UK hit in 1966.
He became blind shortly after he was born but started his career at Motown Records at age 11, and ever since, has accumulated millions from the sale of his records and concert tours around the world.
