The cover of Time Magazine is a subject of much debate as it features a three-year-old boy breastfeeding from his mother
Attachment parenting is a controversial subject which has sparked quite a debate, since the time the latest issue of Time Magazine was released. The cover of Time Magazine features a mother feeding her three-year-old son while standing up. The mother is Jamie Lynee Grumet, who is a real mother who subscribes to the concept of attachment parenting. She was amongst three other mothers who was shot by photographer Martin Schoeller for the breastfeeding issue of Time Magazine. The feature also has the caption 'Are you mom enough?' because attachment parenting requires a lot of commitment on the part of the parents.
Attachment parenting is a philosophy which requires that the children stay with their parents as much as possible till the time they themselves distance themselves from their parents. In attachment parenting the mothers feed their children till that time they wean naturally. So some children take their mother's feed till the time they are three or four years old or sometimes even longer. In this practice, children also co-sleep with their parents till the time they are old enough to sleep on their own. The philosophy also entails child-wearing which means parents carry their children with them all the time, mostly in slings.
The attachment parenting edition of child magazine also features the real stories of parents who are practicing this concept. Joanne Beauregard is a mother who practices attachment parenting. She has a 10-week-old son, James and a 22-month-old daughter, Claire and she breast feeds both of them at the same time, a concept called tandem feeding.
Joanne Beauregard says that even though attachment parenting is difficult but the time spent with her children is the best time. Even her husband practices attachment parenting and even he spends all his time with his children.
In attachment parenting, the mother does not use bottles or formulas to feed her baby with and neither does she pump her own breast milk to be used later. This means that the mother should be at the beck and call of her children throughout the day and even during nights.
Attachment parenting is a controversial topic and it has sparked a huge debate. In some cultures it is very normal to breastfeed children till the time they are three or four years old, but in cultures like America, it is considered very unconventional and sometimes even controversial
