Santino, a male chimp in the Furuvik Zoo in Sweden is not as dumb as one would think – he has apparently, perfected a method to attack those visitors who annoy him.
The story of this unique chimp has been reported in foxnews of 10th of May 2012.
It seems he works on the sly – when there are no visitors around, he goes about preparing an elaborate ‘trap’.
He brings good-size of hay and places it near the visitor’s section – he also puts stones under the hay. He goes about this task seriously – his mission is to lure the unsuspecting visitors into a false sense of security.
When visitors come, he goes near to them and then removes the stones which he had hidden under the hay and throws those stones to chase them away.
He probably pelts the stones to vent his anger.
Researcher Mathias Osvath is studying the behavior pattern of this clever chimp and is also trying to analyze its psychology. Mathias Osvath is the scientific director of the Lund University Primate Research Station Furuvik.
