Washington Post covered a detailed news report on Tom Gabel’s gender after he came out of the closet in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine. The interview is available online and many people are trying to get hold of it.
Tom Gabel now claims that he is a transgender and will begin living as a woman, via hormone and cosmetic treatments. This was a huge surprise for his colleagues and fans who weren’t anticipating such a revelation. Tom Gabel is also changing his name to Laura Jane Grace. He was married to wife Heather and he plans to continue his marriage however his current wife Heather has yet to share her comments on his transgender.
Most fans are concerned about whether Tom’s transgender will have any repercussions on his career and the band? The band is on its way to release a new album in the near future and they will continue to work the way they did hence Tom Gabel’s gender isn’t likely to affect the kind of music they are making. However it might have a positive or a negative impact on their publicity.
Aside from a brand new album on the platter the Florida band is also on its way for a national tour headed to the Fillmore in Silver Spring next month.
Tom Gabel expressed himself very candidly in the interview with the magazine. He said, “I’m going to have embarrassing moments” “But . . . [I’m] hoping people will understand, and hoping they’ll be fairly kind.” It was a huge step for him and not many people have the courage to make this confession or chose to disclose such information publically.
The band’s Facebook page is showing messages of support and concern for now but there are definitely a few outbursts on a few other online platforms. Tom Gabel will have to bear with these comments and muster up some courage to face the music.
