Two bombs in the morning rush hour in the Syrian capital of Damascus have left 40 dead and more than 170 have been injured in the blasts.

TV footage released by the state network showed major damages in the al-Qazzaz suburb located to the south of Damascus where the military intelligence complex is situated.

The blasts are believed to be the handiwork of terrorists and the news has been reported in the BBC of 10th of May 2012.

It appears that the first explosion occurred at 8am when people were leaving for work and it was followed by the a second explosion more powerful than the first as per the accounts of eyewitnesses.

The blasts have made two huge craters on the roads.

The targets appear to have been the 10-story high military intelligence complex which houses the anti-terrorist and counterterrorism wing alongside the military security intelligence building.
