A woman had to get one of her legs amputated when a kayaking ride down a creek in Carrollton, Georgia, with her friends went totally haywire and she ended up on the losing side and is now wavering between life and death.
The news has been reported in Herald Sun of 11th of May 2012.
24-year old Aimee Copeland, a University of Georgia student of psychology has had to get one of her legs amputated because flesh-eating bacteria had entered her body through a wound she received when the line of a homemade zip broke and left a deep gash in her calf.
She had first been to the Tanner Medical Centre in Carrollton, Georgia, where the doctors stapled the cut by 22 staples and gave her painkillers. But that did not help.
She was later shifted to JMS Burn Centre in Augusta, Georgia and suffered a cardiac arrest after the amputation of her left leg from above the hip.
She is now in a critical condition – the chances of her survival are ‘slim to none’. At least five of her major organs appear to be failing.
