A brand new Russian passenger jet on a demonstration flight with 46 persons on board has gone missing shortly after takeoff from Jakarta in Indonesia as reported in BBC dated 9th of May 2012.
As per available reports, the Sukhoi Superjet 100 disappeared from the ground radar screen near Bogor, a city in West Java province, 50-minutes after takeoff.
It was to have been a short duration flight.
Eyewitnesses mention of seeing a plane flying at a low altitude and headed towards the hilly mountainous region in Mt Salak – however, no one has heard of any sound of crash.
The plane had fuel for a 4-hour journey and eight persons, including the pilot and technicians, who were in the aircraft were Russians. The others were invitees of Sukhoi.
This Sukhoi Superjet can carry up to 100 passengers and is a product of Sukhoi who are basically experienced in manufacture of military fighter aircraft.
