The Voice Recap for April 30th, 2012

It’s time for the finals on “The Voice” and this week the final four singers – Juliet Simms, Jermaine Paul, Tony Lucca, and Chris Mann – will perform for the title of “The Voice”. This week the winner will be determined solely by fan votes.

Along with their solo performances, the singers also performed a duet with their coaches.

Representing team Blake, Alicia Keys background singer Jermaine Paul has proved himself a premiere solo artist and kicks off the night’s performances with “I Believe I Can Fly”. The St. James Concert Choir joined Jermaine in his performance. Christina said Jermaine performs with so much heart and emotion; saying the song was made for Jermaine, and he shined like a superstar. Cee Lo said it was a perfect song choice for the night and he was impressed. Adam said Jermaine’s performance was powerful; adding that Jermaine is an incredible singer and engaging. Coach Blake said that he was speechless and his heart was in his throat. Blake said that although he had listened to the song millions of times, he heard it for the first time with Jermaine’s performance; Blake added that he may be the coach but he learns things from Jermaine.

As a surprise and thanky you for their coaches, each singer performs a song by their coaches. First up was Juliet with “Crazy” originally performed by Gnarls Barkley.

The first duet of the night was from Chris Mann and Christina Aguilera with the Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion hit “The Prayer”. Chris and Christina performed the song beautifully in English and Italian.

Team Adam’s Tony Lucca has come a long way from the days of the Mickey Mouse Club with Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and Justin Timberlake. For his final solo performance Tony puts his own take on the Jay-Z hit “99 Problems” in a rendition that included beating drums, a stand up bass, and a rub board. Tony opened the song a’ cappella and then played his guitar as the audience clapped and sang along. Blake said the performance was a lot of fun and thought it was a really cool version of the song. Christina said that she thought Tony had a cool voice and sounded great. Cee Lo liked it and coach Adam thought Tony did a fantastic job and was amazing.

In his tribute to coach Christina, Chris Mann performed “The Voice Within”. Chris said that Christina made his dream come true when she sang “The Prayer” with him.

Juliet Simms and coach Cee Lo channel their inner rebel with the Steppenwolf hit “Born to Be Wild”.

Tony Lucca and his coach Adam Levine discovered that they are both big Beatles fans and chose the iconic hit penned by Sir Paul McCartney “Yesterday”. The performance involved Tony, Adam, Tony’s guitar, and strings in the background.

For his tribute, Jermaine performed the Blake Shelton song “God Gave Me You”. After the performance Jermaine told Blake that he felt like God Gave him Blake.

For his solo performance Chris Mann performed “You Raise Me Up”, a song made popular by Josh Groban but was originally written and performed by Secret Garden. While Chris sang, a lady gave an incredible performance of her own signing the words to the song. By the end of the song Christina was in tears. Cee Lo said that Chris was by far one of the most incomparable artists he had ever heard; adding Chris was completely cool. Cee Lo asked that if he ever fell in love again would Chris sing at his wedding? Christina said that Chris has really proven that he got to the finals by his talents; adding that Chris’ voice shined, was beautiful, and amazing.

Jermaine and Blake chose the Blues Brother hit “Soul Man” for their duet. During rehearsals Blake told Jermaine that it was Jermaine’s turn to be the teacher.

In his tribute to Adam, Tony performed the Maroon 5 song “Harder to Breathe” from “Songs About Jane”. Upon finishing the song Tony said, “you got a lot of words in there man.”

The final performance of the night was from Juliet Simms with her rendition of the iconic hit song “Freebird”. Adam said that what Juliet does is incredible and no one sings like her. Christina called the performance amazing. Cee Lo said, “with Juliet on my team, I have ‘No Problems’.”

On the final results night of the season, a winner will be crowned, Justin Bieber, Flo Rida, Hall and Oates, and Lady Antebellum will perform in a two hour extravaganza.
