It was expected to earn a lot. The Avengers is one of 2012’s most anticipated films and it seems it lived up or even exceeded expectations.
The Avengers earned a record-setting $ 200.3 million in its opening weekend. It defeated Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 which previously held the record with a $ 169.1 million opening. One reason for The Avengers high earnings is the Friday midnight showings which earned $ 18.7 million. The film may have been expensive to make, but it was worth it. It cost $ 220 million but as of today, it has already got $ 440 million at the international theaters. It now has a total of $ 640 million in just twelve days.
As for the rest of the films in the list, it was a sad week. Think Like A man, which was number one last week, only got $ 8 million. The Hunger Games, The Rave and The Lucky One managed to retain their place. While Safe lost about 70%R of its audience. The other Joss Whedon and Chris Hemsworth film Cabin in the Woods exited the list this week but it was still a good week for both of them.
Next week, we get to see another anticipated film. Dark Shadows, the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp vampire movie will be bringing in the laughter and fun. The only question is, will it beat The Avengers? Below is the complete list of films in the Box Office.
