The 60th birthday of Violet D’Mello, a British tourist, turned into a veritable nightmare when pet cheetahs mauled her in the petting area of a game park in South Africa as reported in skynews dated 4th of May 2012.

Violet was in the park with her husband 64-year old Archie when the pet cheetahs Mark and Monty attacked her – she tried to play dead but could not escape from the clutches of the animals. She suffered cuts, bruises and wounds on her head, stomach and legs and had to be shifted to the hospital.

The incident has happened in the Kragga Kamma Game Park in Port Elizabeth.

The two cheetahs had been hand-reared since birth and were considered extremely tame, hence the authorities are trying to find out what caused them to behave in such a manner.
