A woman was killed when a Secret Service agent hit her with their car in Brooklyn this afternoon, law enforcement sources said.
Maria Tripp, 47, lived only four blocks from the scene. She was walking along Atlantic Avenue and Ralph Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant when she was struck around 4:50 p.m. She was declared dead at Brookdale Hospital.
The agent had a green light, according to a law enforcement source. Agency spokesman Edwin Donovan said that the Secret Service agent is one of their personnel from the New York field office. He believed the agent was on duty, he said. The accident is under investigation by NYPD.
Donovan said the agent was not assigned to a security detail.
A Secret Service Agent whose job is not only to protect the president but also heads of state visiting the US and also investigates crimes, such as counterfeiting.
