Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a slut after she testified before Congress about the medical benefits of birth control. Republicans did not only back up his statements, they defended him. Although Limbaugh lost a significant number of advertisers, the new mantra for Conservatives had begun: women only wanted birth control to be sluts and have sex. Legislation has been presented on both the federal and state level limiting access to birth control by Conservatives nationwide. Funding for Family Planning is being threatened, women are being required to get ultrasounds before an abortion and the Conservatives have managed to push this agenda out in the open with complete disregard to the needs of women.
Liberal woman are striking back! A new website called “Rock the Slut Vote” has been established calling women to band together and turn every state in the nation blue. A checklist has been created to spell out just which women may be sluts and asking them to join this movement. Of course this list is very wide ranging, which is exactly their message. Basically, if you are women, you are probably a slut- at least you are considered one in the eyes of the Conservatives.
Women seek birth control for reasons other than contraception. Women with fibroids, endometriosis, ovulation issues as well as other medical conditions depend on birth control to manage their medical needs. U.S. Health reports that from 1995 to 2002, the percentage of American women who said they received contraceptive services rose from 36 percent to 41 percent, according to Jennifer J. Frost, a senior research associate at the Guttmacher Institute in New York City, and author of the survey report published in the October issue of the American Journal of Public Health. The increase in need is being counterbalanced by attempts to limit access in the political arena.
This website it intended to take advantage of the inappropriate terminology used against women and unite them to make the changes they feel are necessary to ensure women have access to medical care. The Daily Caller reports “Our mission is to fight the GOP effort to bully, subjugate and silence women,” RTSV (Rock the Slut Vote) United explains on its website. “We will wrest the power from the word slut and help women get informed, get involved, get registered and vote.”
Leading into the elections in November, fury is raging in the bellies of woman who feel that they are being completely dismissed and all of the progress made in equal rights over the past several decades is decaying. After hearing that in the good old days women simply needed to “hold an aspirin between their knees” and problems would be solved, these women have decided they are not going to take it anymore.

Prevailing wisdom says owning a "label" and using your wits defuses its impact. And this definitely does that!
All of us sluts of America will stand together for rights for women and children against conservatives who want put us back 100 years.
I wrote about Suffragettes a few months ago, and to see how far we have come since 1920 when we got the vote is utterly amazing.
Limbaugh is a pothole in the road and a footnote in history compared to the rigorous journey women have endured.

Please read my article!
Thank you for a great article! The right is outraged that Rock The Slut Vote has embraced the word 'slut'. Heaven forbid that one of their favorite attack words loses its power! We have had national press this week and somehow they just don't get it, preferring to believe if we say we are sluts that we must be sluts! Humor, edge, irony, satire, all beyond their grasp! We appreciate your support!

If that is the reason for using contraception then they are depending on a method that is not reliable. Contraceptive methods other than correctly done surgical sterilization have a definite failure rate.
Physicians will prescribe drugs that prevent fertilization if medically indicated. There will be no laws passed that prevent properly trained and certified physicians from prescribing recognized genuine treatment for genuine physical disorders recognized as such.
The premise that over-the-counter and elective contraception has to be permitted because some women cannot safely procreate is similar to the ruse that "medical" marijuana has to be permitted because the active ingredient(s) in marijuana are the only reasonalbe pain relief for some people.
Pregnancy is no more a "medical" condition that is any other normal, natural bodily function. Complications of pregnancy are medical conditions. Pregnancy is not a disease that unfortunately results from sexual intercourse.
Is a bowel movement an abnormal medical condition that sometimes unfortunately results from the natural function of eating and digestion? No, of course not. It is the natural result of a natural bodily function. Constipation, bowel obstruction, bowel cancer, etc. are complications of the bowel function and are medical conditions.
The "contraception" that is opposed by (some) conservatives is abortifacient, which is not contra-conception at all but acts after conception to cause the embryo/fetus/unborn child to die. It's really abortion, not true contraception, that is opposed politically by the Pro-Life/Anti-Abortion activists.
Remember that Rubbish Humbug is an entertainer, not a serious commentator. He is after ratings that can be used to sell advertising on his program. Maybe he goofed up with the slut thing but if he lost some advertisers they were replaced by others that have been waiting their chance to buy airtime on his program.
Remember Joe Pyne (died 1970)? "Go gargle with razor blades." His tendency toward insult and vitriol offended most critics, who called him "outrageous," "belligerent," and "self-righteous." Groups like the Anti-Defamation League accused him of catering to bigots; however, audiences kept listening and watching. -- stolen from wikipedia
Rubbish doesn't care if you call him names or scream at your radio, as long as you keep listening. To the ads.
This is not an issue of whether or not you agree with women using birth control. Their reason does not matter. Whether it is for a medical condition or for prevention of pregnancy- it is none of your business. This is something between a woman and her medical care provider! You have no business in this discussion and the fact that you think you do is why they organized this group.
And you are very wrong when you say that women needing contraception for other medical conditions they won't be denied. That is exactly was Ms. Fluke testified about.
People have a right to oppose anything they want to oppose. But they do not have the right to tell me or any other woman (or person for that matter) how to live their lives.
Sterilization? Well, then... men should be sterilized because the procedure is much simpler and comes with a lot less risk. That is a ridiculous statement to make. A choice made today may change next year. A man or woman may decide they want to have a child at some point and a permanent option is not a valuable one for a lot of people.
And then we move on to a woman's right to have an abortion. It is her body and it is her choice. Again, no one has the right to push their religious beliefs on others. We all have the freedom to have our own beliefs, but we do not have the right to push that belief onto others. That is, again, why this movement was started.
I will respect your RIGHT to have your own beliefs, but in turn you should respect my RIGHT to have my own.
We do it through our elected representatives, who make laws, and the courts, who interpret them.
Every law tells someone how to conduct some aspect of their lives.
"It is her body and it is her choice."
The laws do not agree that you are free to do as you please in everything. That is why we have police/sheriffs, courts and prisons - to punish those who refuse to obey the laws.
"It is her body and it is her choice."
The unborn child is not the property of her mother. This concept, that one human being can own another and have absolute power over that other person, is the false premise of Dred Scott v. Sandford, 60 U.S. 393 (1857), in which the US Supreme Court decreed that a human being of African origin whose ancestors were brought to America and sold as slaves was not a citizen and had no rights the white man was bound to respect. As if citizenship had anything to do with it: a Frenchman visiting America had certain rights, though not the right to stay as long as he chose or to vote. He was as a noncitizen no one's property to be disposed of as they chose.
The woman is free to choose not to become a mother. Once she has procreated (conceived), another human being's life is in the matter.
This is not a "religious" belief any more than your position that a mother owns her unborn child and can do to or with her as she chooses. Dr. Bernard Nathanson, mass abortionist and a founding member of NARAL and a chief mover to get abortion decriminalized in New York in 1970 and in the USA in 1973, was a "Jewish" atheist from his youth. He did not "get religion" until several years after he changed his opinion about abortion and became a strong opponent of elective abortion. He declared that religion had nothing to do with his change of opinion - his humanist ideals and advances in technology were the factors.
I do respect your "RIGHT" to have your beliefs. What I do not respect is a supposed "RIGHT" to ACT on your beliefs in all cases as you choose. When you come on a public forum and express your beliefs I will do the same.
Please note that I do not resort to namecalling or ad hominem attacks but base my positions on knowledge and reason. You and I differ because we start on different foundations. I say that no human being owns another human being. You are free to differ.
My wife has borne eight children - at home, in an RV, and in a motel, without any reliance on medical practitioners. The only contact she had with OB/Gyns was as a "cover" to have a licensed physician as "caregiver" for legal reasons.
As long as there are no complications of pregnancy there is no reason to have medical professionals intervening. Often they make things bad by treating pregnancy as a pathological condition.
She learned that the OB/Gyn she contacted during her first pregnancy had an over-90% episiotomy rate. She never went back.
If she had been under the "care" of an OB when she had a double footling breech presentation, she would have been subjected to an emergency C-section with all its damage and common injuries to the child (a female, by the way). As it was she had no trouble and the baby was fine.
I met a man whose wife was an OB nurse in a regional hospital. She gave birth by herself at home rather than let the "Drs." do their thing on her. She declared that there was "no way" she'd let those "butchers" she worked with get near her or her baby.
We have had no more problems with pregnancy and childbirth than I have had going through life (hit by car, shot, beaten, etc.). When I get sick and don't seem able to take care of it myself, I go to a physician. If I go for a periodic exam I call it "maintenance," not necessary to live but just to get ahead on any possible troubles that have no symptoms yet. But I don't run to a "Dr." every time I have gas or a BM.
For you to compare your gas or a BM to a woman's pregnancy tells me volumes about your disdain for women.
As far as "required," WHO (or what) "requires" "a doctor and lab test ... a hospitalization, delivery room and follow up care?"
This is merely a quasi-religious belief.
Every bodily function is a "medical condition" if something goes wrong with it that is past caring for at home.
Anyone who can throw a wedding bash at the Breakers in Palm Beach ain't hurtin' in the bucks category.
My great-grandfather exercised his legal and ancient traditional "RIGHT" to own other human beings. Then the laws were changed to take away his "RIGHT" to own his fellow human beings.
He had to stop or he would have been imprisoned or put to death.
He was a good Presbyterian and his RELIGION didn't have any problem with holding other human beings as property. His reputation (according to a Black tenant of an apartment I once managed) was that he was a good master, but that was up to his CHOICE. If he had CHOSEN to be an abusive tyrant, his slaves would have had little to nothing they could have done about it.
Yes, "women" ARE under attack! Unborn female human beings, future women, if they are permitted to live, are treated as property of their mothers. Their lives are made dependent on the CHOICE of their mothers.
Females are overwhelmingly aborted for sex selection. Males are preferred over females especially for the first child. When abortion for population control is forced, the result is an enormous bias in favor of a large excess of males over females. When people can have or want only one child, the majority CHOOSE a male.
We are not supposed to rely on "common sense" for rectitude. "Common sense" varies from person to person, and is dependent on the individual's life experience, education, social affiliations, and many other factors. None of us lives long enough to figure out right and wrong from scratch. Too often an uninformed choice turns out to be the individual's LAST choice. Speeding buses aren't very forgiving of bad choices in jaywalking. Ought to have listened to Mamma.
What is "self-sustaining?" Weaned? Raises all food, makes all clothing from raw cotton or wool, chops trees down with a sharp rock I chipped, builds house, in short, do everything with no help whatsoever from another person?
I didn't build the house I live in. I didn't raise the food I eat. None of it. Don't make my clothes. Shoes. Nothing. Guess I oughta been aborted, but as my mother is dead, she missed her chance.
Oh, I guess I can do with my cells as I wish, as long as I don't commit any crimes with them, and so can you. But when you become a mother, the embryo/fetus/baby's cells aren't yours any more.
Tennessee Constitution, Article I, § 34. Property rights - "The General Assembly shall make no law recognizing the right of property in man."
"Man" here is "human being," not "male human being" alone. As in "mankind."
