As an online writer I thought it would be interesting to go on a new diet and chronicle my experience. I chose to lose the weight in a very controversial, unconventional method. I chose HCG. I found that losing the weight became somewhat of a recovery program rather than just a diet. You see, I've been on many diets and lost weight only to turn around and gain it back. But this time would be different, my head was truly in the game for good.
My husband chose to do the diet plan with me which only proved to make it easier and much more interesting. Now I could log how a man responds compared to a woman on the plan. For our first round we chose to do 35 days. For phase one we pigged out our first two days on the protocol just like Dr. Simeon's in his manuscript "Pounds and Inches" instructs. We ate cake, ice cream, donuts, bacon -- you name it, we stuffed it down our gullets.
The first week on phase two of the diet proved to be very difficult as those donuts, cakes and ice cream treats called my name many times as I found myself in sugar and starch withdrawals which literally brought me to tears a few times. The interesting part about HCG is you are not hungry, but you may "want" food out of emotional eating issues or just plain the love of eating. I found myself struggling with both, but more often stress caused me to want to turn to food.
We chose to stop our first round on Day 35 because we did not want to mix up another batch of HCG and waste some of it, not to mention, we were ready to do phase three which allows us to eat anything we want except starches and sugars. My husband became the superstar at this phase because he has never had to do a correction day to stabilize his weight in the range of two pounds above or two pounds below our last injection weight (LIW). I have struggled a bit in this phase and had to do a correction day my first week in order to stabilize within the range of my LIW.
We are currently on day eight of phase three and will continue until the 21st day, then we will switch to phase four which is where we can add sugars and starches. I am so proud of my husband and so busy taking in my clothes. My sewing machine has come in handy as I use it to take in my business slacks and shirts so they won't fall off! I am not kidding, losing 30 lbs in 35 days causes a serious clothing issue which I am more than glad to accommodate. Truly needing to remake my clothing is a great problem to have.
My husband dropped a total of 32 lbs and I lost 30. Losing 30 lbs. with the pregnancy hormone Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) seems like it was easy, but the honest truth for me is my weight has very little to do with learning to eat the proper foods, rather more to do with emotional eating.
Within the first week of June my husband and I will do our second and hopefully final round of HCG where we will start the process all over again with eating to our hearts desire every kind of junk food we can cram down our throats. Our goal is to each lose another 20 lbs. The crazy part about loading is a couple of weeks ago I had a list of all the most fattening, delicious foods that I miss since starting HCG, and now I have no desire for them and chucked the list. I have a feeling with all the positive emotional and physical changes taking place in our bodies, we may have a tough time doing phase one again!
