The Chinese love their pork but had problems of how best to dispose of the 1.5-millon tons of waste annually. The Australians have come up with an apparent solution as understood from canada.com of 2nd of May 2012.
An Australian company has put up a proposal to convert the waste into bio-fuel by using a equipment known as ‘PooCareTM’, a bioreactor.
The gas could be used as an alternate source of energy and can be used for cooking and heating.
The solid residue could be diverted to farmers to use as nutrient-rich manure.
The necessary technology is being drawn up by a South Australian-based firm, the Contamination Assessment and Remediation of the Environment (CRC Care).
China has more than 700-milion pigs so the magnitude of the problem can be easily visualized.
