President of Costa Rica highlights economic achievements

The president of Costa Rica, Laura Chinchilla, on Tuesday stressed his government's achievements in 2011, including the creation of 90,000 new jobs.

As is traditional in the country, every May 1 in office the president is accountable to Congress and, in this case, Chinchilla stressed the competitiveness and economic growth, but warned about the risk of fiscal deficit, the highest in Latin America.

Chinchilla said that despite the international crisis, the Costa Rica economy grew by 4%, 90,000 jobs were generated, tourism increased by 5% and exports by 12% and reduce inflation to its lowest level in 40 years.

This May 1, the directory also elected legislature for the next 12 months.
