New York welcomes the arrival of its second NBA team, the Brooklyn Nets as the they unveiled their brand-new Brroklyn Nets logos on Monday morning, ESPN reports. The Nets just moved to Brooklyn, New York from New Jersey right after the NBA season ended. The new logo has a simple black-and-white color scheme designed by part-owner and rapper icon Jay-Z.
"The Brooklyn Nets logos are another step we've made to usher the organization into a new era," Jay-Z said in a statement. "The boldness of the designs demonstrate the confidence we have in our new direction. Along with our move to Brooklyn and a state-of-the-art arena, the new colors and logos are examples of our commitment to update and refine all aspects of the team."
The inspiration for the new Brooklyn Nets black and white logo is to pay homage to the oldest New York subway signage system. Social media was buzzing right after the Nets logo was announced at a press conference. Twitter was immediately flooded with Brooklyn Nets logo photos. The Nets logo will be featured in a pair of black and white New Brooklyn jerseys. The first logo features a armor shield and the name "NETS" with the letter "B" inside a basketball and "BROOKLYN" underneath. The second features the letter "B" inside a basketball encircled by "BROOKLYN NEW YORK" according to the report.
The Brooklyn Nets are hoping to be more competitive and hope to have a greater impact on the 2012-13 season as the team move into the $1 billion arena. The Nets are also hoping to land some good players in the 2012 NBA draft and acquired some good trade in the free agency market. The former New Jersey team finished last in the the Atlantic division with lousy 22-44 record and 12th in NBA Eastern Conference standing. Otherwise its same old results in new uniform.
