Another well known journalist who attended the 2012 White House dinner is author and syndicated columnist Arianna Huffington. She was the former Stassinopoulos. She is a Greek-American, co-founder of Huffington Post and ex-wife of former Republican Congressman Michael Huffington.
She has rich political experiences being an independent candidate for Governor in the California recall election. She was named as number 12 in Forbes' first-ever list of the Most Influential Women In Media. She has also moved up to number 42 in The Guardian's Top 100 in Media List. In 2011, AOL acquired The Huffington Post for US$315 million and made Huffington president and editor in chief of The Huffington Post Media Group, which included The Huffington Post and then-existing AOL properties such as Engadget, AOL Music, Patch Media, and StyleList (Wikipedia}.
Huffington is a popular conservative commentator who adopted liberal political beliefs in the late 1990s. Her presence at the dinner on April 28, 2012 at Washington Hilton Hotel Ballroom provided the balance of the democratic character of the occasion. As such, anyone could clearly glean that democracy in America at the height of the 2012 U.S. presidential election campaign is very much alive.
The 2012 White House correspondents’ dinner having a guest with strength of character and political bearings that of Columnist Huffington gave well defined meanings, purposes and significance of the event.
It made the Obama platforms for all in America. It is not party particular but very specific for the common cause of the American people. No distinct Democrats nor Republicans, only distinct Americans of the Union.
