Perth-based designer Aurelio Costarella officially debuted his Spring/Summer 2012/13 to his country’s fashionistas at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, held at the Overseas Passenger Terminal on April 30, 2012 in Sydney.
Models donned a series of classical inspired Goddess gowns and shorter versions of the same in chiffon, interspersed with marabou feathers and lace, accessorizing with silk blossoms in their hair.
Of particular note are his cream gown with the strapless corset style bodice, his lovely chartreuse gowns and the rather Victorian looking tiered black gown with feather detailing.
The dusty rose corset cocktail dress was also pretty awesome, as were the aqua colored cocktail dress and the taupe lace skirt ensemble.
Sleek ponytails, which are apparently really “hot” this season in Australia, slicked back with a chalky powder that was mixed in with a gel to create a white paste that was brushed over the front.
Reportedly, some donned two ponytails on the occipital bone that were then knotted together to give the style a “slick, directional feel” per the stylist.
As for their makeup, James Molloy using MAC created the 1920’s gothic-inspired look, having no hard lines but a smudgy eye, first applying taupe all over the lid and outside the brow bone, then a cream-based moss green was patted on top, and then finally a gold-green pigment to complete the “mesmerizing melancholic look.”
You could say that Aurelio Costarella’s life began when first launched his eponymous label at Australia Fashion Week back in 2000.
Since then, Costarella’s creations have been worn by the likes of, and “Glee” star Naya Rivera, though he explains that for him, showing in Australia is “something quite special,” and that he remembers the first show he did in New York, which made him feel as though he didn’t have “anything to prove” outside of his own country.
