A person was killed and 119 were injured in the night from Saturday to Sunday in Cairo in clashes between the Salafists and civilians, presented as residents of the neighborhood where a demonstration was taking place.
Dozens of supporters of Hazem Abu Ismail, a Salafist longer in the race for president, had led to the Saturday Abbassiya district, not far from the Ministry of Defence, to protest against the exclusion of their champion and claim the departure of the military.
In the night they were attacked by civilians who are, according to the official MENA news agency, local residents frustrated by their demonstration.
The clashes lasted until dawn and both sides exchanged stone throwing, Molotov cocktails and fired buckshot, said a source within the security services.
According to the Ministry of Health, one person was killed and 119 were injured, mostly minor. The ministry said that the victim had died from his injuries, without elaborating.
The military police stationed outside the Ministry of Defence has not taken place.
Violence during the demonstrations in Egypt are frequently attributed to thugs sponsored by rivals to attack the protesters.
Hazem Abu Ismail is one of ten presidential candidates of 23 to have been eliminated because of irregularities in their records. The mother of Mr. Abu Ismail got officials said an American citizen, contrary to the electoral law which states that the candidate, his parents and his wife only to be Egyptians.
Most of his supporters argue that a plot was orchestrated candidate against him and refuse his exclusion.
