Mr. Irrelevant is the last player that is picked in the NFL Draft every season. Whoever is picked last wins a week-long vacation to Newport Beach, CA and a day-long trip to Disneyland. Also, the team with the last pick can never trade the pick.
Many college football players agonize throughout the weekend until their names are called. Whoever is not picked has to then wait for NFL teams to call them into their camps as free agents.
This year, the Indianapolis Colts possessed the 253rd and final pick. The Colts just made their decision; they selected QB Chandler Harnish of Northern Illinois.
Although Harnish was picked last in the 2012 NFL Draft, he has a legitimate chance to make the Colts as a backup quarterback to #1 pick Andrew Luck. Harnish was the 2011 MAC offensive player of the year. His stats were very impressive last season. He became only the fourth college football quarterback to throw for over 3,000 yards and to run for over 1,000 yards in a season. His versatility allowed for him to reach the end zone 39 times last season (28 passing TD's and 11 rushing TD's).
Congratulations, Chandler Harnish! You are now Mr. Irrelevant 2012.
