The authorities at Hong Kong airport had confiscated a total of 18 numbers of the rare Philippines pond turtles and these have now been returned to the Philippines authorities as reported in foxnews of 27th of April 2012.

These rare turtles were in the possession of a Chinese student and were hidden among other varieties of 13 more common box turtles.

There are only 120 of these Philippines pond turtles in the world and these are found only in the forests of Palawan Island in Manila – people keep them as novelty pets.

Officials of the Philippine Wildlife Bureau went to Hong Kong to bring back their precious pond turtles. The governor of Palawan was present at the Manila airport to receive the turtles.
