Prince William and Prince Harry interview on charity work in Africa

Washington, 26 April, 2012

Indeed a fluttering feather in the British Royals’ Cap. Prince Harry is to be feted for his humanitarian accomplishments on May 07, 2012, by the Atlantic Council on the occasion of the Council’s 50th Anniversary in Washington DC, America.

Prince Harry has been chosen for the Atlantic Council’s 2012 Distinguished Humanitarian Leadership Award to be presented by General Colin Powell. Other august honorees are UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Unilever CEO Paul Polman, the Enlisted Men & Women of the US Armed Forces, and world famous violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter.

Senator Chuck Hagel, Chairman of the Atlantic Council in a statement released declared “The Atlantic Council is proud to recognize the tremendous contributions of these very special honorees.”

The 27-year-old royal will be accepting the award on behalf of his elder brother Duke of Cambridge for their joint charitable ventures through The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry, which helps in the rehabilitation of wounded servicemen and women and reintegrates them back into civilian life.

According to the St James's Palace spokesman, Prince Harry was surprised and honored to have been made the recipient of such an esteemed award. Royal watchers may be aware that in 2011 Prince Harry participated alongside wounded servicemen in their charity trek to the North Pole.

The Palace spokesman further informed that the younger royal will take the opportunity during the award ceremony to pay tributes to British and American veterans' charities for their various activities linked to rehabilitation of sick and wounded servicemen and women.

Prince Harry with this prestigious honor will be following in the footsteps of some famous personalities like U2 singer Bono. Just two years ago Bono was presented the Atlantic Council's first humanitarian award for his yeoman efforts towards combating disease and poverty in Africa.

Prince William will be giving the ceremony scheduled for next month a miss, as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the former Kate Middleton will be attending and presenting prizes at the Badminton Horse Trials.
