William Balfour accused of killing Jennifer Hudson's family appeared to cry at his trial Wednesday when graphic photos of the youngest victim, Hudson’s 7-year-old nephew were exhibited by prosecutors.
The trial is on its third day of testimony and this is the first time Hudson’s brother-in-law has appeared to be emotional. Balfour wiped his eyes with a piece of tissue in front of the jury as the bloody pictures of Julian King were shown on a large courtroom screen.
Balfour was separated from his wife, Hudson's sister, at the time of the killings. He pleaded not guilty in the murder of Hudson's mother, brother and nephew. The Oscar winning actress spent much of the morning outside the courtroom as the bloody photographs of Julian were shown. She went back inside the courtroom after the pictures were shown.
Juilian King was known by the moniker Juice Box was soaked in blood and two bullets holes marked the top of his head.
Prosecutors regularly give notice in advance to the relative’s victims that they are about to enter disturbing evidence to give them a chance to leave .
Prosecutors claimed Balfour killed the family in an act of jealousy against his ex-wife, Julia Hudson, the mother of Julian. They believe he became infuriated by balloons he saw at the home that he thought were from her new boyfriend. At 9 a.m., Balfour went inside the Hudson family house and shot to death Hudson’s mother and brother. And then he drove off in Jason Hudson’s SUV with 7-year-old Julian inside, and later shot the boy on the head as he sat in the rear seat.
In the other hand, defense attorneys claimed the killing could be linked to alleged drug dealing by Hudson’s brother. Lacking witnesses to the murders, prosecutors must present overwhelming circumstantial evidence that could prove that Balfour committed the hideous crime on Oct. 24, 2008.
