Three people have died of swine flue in India’s Tamil Nadu state in last one month, according to health officials, according to Indian media.

Sources said a 55-year-old woman named Mrs Kaliammal died at the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai on Tuesday, raising the death toll to three in the state this month.

She had been suffering from throat pain, cough and fever for the past few days and was admitted to the hospital on Monday, officials said.

Earlier, a 70-year old farmer died in Tirupur district in western Tamil Nadu, and a 35-year old woman succumbed to the virus in Chennai on Monday.

According to hospital sources, several suspected swine flu cases have been reported in Chennai, Coimbatore and Tirupur districts in the current month.
