President-elect Vladimir Putin today announced he will resign aschairman of United Russia party and recommend the mostoutgoing President Dmitry Medvedev to replace him in this position.
Russia's current Prime Minister, who will be sworn in as Presidenton 7/5 to, hints, party meetings in the second half of May to beelected as new president Medvedev.
Mr Putin, 59, also said that Mr. Medvedev will become Prime Minister.
Mr. Medvedev is said to be lesser-known Putin for party members. Many people have criticized him after the United Russia party won the support is quite low compared to theprevious century in any election in December last year. UnifiedRussia won just under 50% of the votes in the Duma, down frommore than 64% in the previous election in 2007.
Meanwhile, Putin won more than 63% of the vote in the presidential election four thirds past and his supporters in the rateof recent polls show a much higher proportion of his party supporters . According to Reuters
