French actress Julie Delpy has said that while she is not ready to quit acting altogether, she will be more careful with the projects she signs in the future and that for now, her main focus remains directing and writing the stories of her movies.
The "Before Sunset" actress previously hinted that her acting career would soon be over. She was quoted admitting, "I think I'm done with acting. Before, I just acted in movies with people I knew. Now I don't want to pursue acting. I will pursue writing and directing," according to a report on Hollywood.com. Now as she promotes her fourth movie as a film maker, Delpy says that her comments were taken out of context and that was not what she meant.
"I'm not quitting, I just don't want to spend my life running to auditions and trying to get a job," Delpy told the New York Post, according to a report on MSN. "When you're an actress, they (talent agents) send you out for anything to keep you busy and so you don't feel left out. The number of times they've sent me to play a sexy Latina, I can't even tell you. The casting director would look at me, I would look at him, and it was like, 'What am I doing here?' He's like, 'I don't know.'"
Delpy is surprised by the number of acting offers she has been receiving since she stepped into the directing business - which she is unable to comprehend. "I've never been offered so much as an actress since I started directing. I'm 42, and it (a screen career) is pretty much over by then. I've had no plastic surgery, so why do they want me in a movie?"
While Delpy started her directing and writing career only a short time back, she says she's had the passion for it since she was nine years old. "I had written a script when I was 18 that a lot of people wanted to produce and a publisher wanted to publish as a book. I didn’t want to do that. I said no,” the actress said in an interview while promoting the sequel of her first film, “Before Sunset”. “Now I’m finally at peace with it and am able to put it out there.”
Delpy is currently working on the promotion of her much-anticipated movie, "2 days in New York”, which is slated for a big opening in August.
