Pakistan: Avalanche traps around 100 Pak soldiers

ISLAMABAD, Apr 23: A mass of 1.73 million cubic feet snow is removed from the unfortunate site, draping under its thick layers of snow more than one hundred Pakistan army personnel at Gayari sector in Siachen glacier war zone between India and Pakistan.

Norwegian team that was assisting in the search and rescue operation under harsh and hostile weather conditions, has returned back to Islamabad and will be leaving on Tuesday.

According to Pakistan army, the search and rescue operation at Gayari continued despite all odds. Ground penetrating Radar Teams have identified two more points for further digging.

Since April, 7, desperate efforts with coordination of foreign teams have been put in place to reach to avalanche covered compound, housing 138 Pakistani army personnel who were trapped at an altitude of around 4,000 metres (13,000 feet).
