Smurf is the wonder cow of Ottawa who has been given recognition by the Guinness Book of World Records for the 215,000 liters of milk this Holstein cow has produced in her lifetime. This has been reported in canada.com of 23rd April 2012.
The average yield in the lifetime of a Holstein cow is in the region of 35,000 liters.
Smurf who lives in a farm on a farm in Embrun continues to produce 50-liters of milk per day and has given birth to her 10th calf and is a source of pride for her owner Dairy farmer Eric Patenaude.
Smurf is a trouble-free cow and weighs nearly 700 Kg when other similar cows normally tip the scales at 600 Kg. Her mother had produced 140,000 in her lifetime and her father was a Wisconsin bred stud.
Usually, when the cows reach the end of their lactation period they are given away for conversion to table products – but, not so for Smurf.
Her owner says that when Smurf dies, she is a very special cow and would be buried in the farm itself and not disposed off in any other way.
