The London Marathon 2012 ended in tragedy with the death of a 30-year-old English woman from North Kilworth Leicestershire while running the final stretch of the race as she suddenly collapsed at Birdcage Walk near St James's Park , reports Mail Online.
The London Marathon organisers confirmed the death of the woman in hospital on Sunday afternoon .despite the immediate assistance of rescuers "We would like to emphasise that our immediate concern is for the family of the deceased. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with them at this difficult time." Organisers said on the marathon's official website.
The woman identity has not yet been officially released but according to London Evening Standard she has been named online as Claire Squires , hairdresser. Claire Squires took part in the London marathon to help raise money for charity through her JustGiving.com page.
Claire wrote on her page "Hi guys, as you all know I am running the London Marathon. It was just going to be for fun, but it's a fab opportunity to raise money for my charity the Samaritans" , reports DailyMail.
