Dwight Howard

Los Angeles California. Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard will have back surgery Friday in Los Angeles to heal a herniated disc in his lower back that has kept him on the bench for the last two weeks.

The operation will be performe by Doctor Robert Watkins. Howard will have four months to recover from the operation. Howard will miss playing time in the National Basketball Association playoffs and the chance to play for Team USA in men's basketball that will compete in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Howard has experienced lower back through the basketball season. He was diagnosed with a herniadted disc in his lower back when he visited Dr. Watkins in Los Angeles last week.

General manager of Team USA basketball Jerry Colangelo will be interviewed by the Los Angeles Times to ask him who will replace Howard on the team roster.

A possible replacement could be Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum. Bynum told the Los Angeles Times in January that he is not likely to play basketball in the summer.
