Mark Lavon, popularly known as, has passed away. Helm passed away at the age of 71 on Thursday afternoon of complications from cancer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He was battling the final stages of cancer.
News about his terminal illness was shared by his wife and daughter on Helm's website. They said, "In the final stages of his battle with cancer" and thanked fans for their prayers.
Levon Helm was best known as an American rock multi-instrumentalist and actor. He was exceptional in drumming. He was a lead and backing vocalist of The Band.
Since the news about Levon Helm’s illness was broken to the public, he had been getting a lot of attention from his friends and fans. Most of the social media platforms were abuzz with prayers and kind wishes for the rock star.
His cancer was diagnosed in 1998. He put up a good fight against the deadly disease. His motivation to perform and his passion to excel in the music industry didn’t stop him from performing despite being diagnosed with cancer and facing problems in speaking due to radiation treatment. Last year in May, Helm released Ramble at the Ryman, a live album recorded during his September 17, 2008, performance at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. The album got really popular in the market and eventually won the Grammy Award for Best Americana Album. After this, he started to cut down on his music-related endeavors due to deteriorating health. Very recently, Helm cancelled several performances due to an alleged slipped disk in his back.
One of his colleagues and former band mate, CBS News, Robertson said, "Last week I was shocked and so saddened to hear that my old band mate, Levon, was in the final stages of his battle with cancer. It hit me really hard because I thought he had beaten throat cancer and had no idea that he was this ill. I spoke with his family and made arrangements to go and see him."went to see him in hospital when he was alive and shared his experience. According to a report by
