ANC Talkback: Corona Impeachment Trial 1/3

Manila, Philippines- The taxpayers’ money is used in the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona so it’s vital to think that every Filipino is involved in this political proceeding.

Sitting as impeachment court, the House of Representatives and Senate have already spent close to P6 million for CJ Corona’s trial.

P3.5 million went to the House of Representatives’ expenditures from the start of the trial up to March 21. According to Rep. Florencio Bem Noel, this amount was spent for food and logistics.

Cash worth P500,000 which is still to be liquidated has been disbursed to 8 impeachment teams.

It’s interesting to note that the funds being utilized was originally meant for the impeachment of former Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez.

The prosecution thinks they’ll spend P2 million more till the close of the trial.

The private prosecutors are doing their services to the house free.

Records as of March 6 show that the Senate has spent some P2.4 million, with the bulk of the amount going into the overtime pay of personnel and the rest going to supplies, equipment and maintenance.

Faced with the fact that 4.5 million Filipino families continue to experience hunger, is Juan de la Cruz money which is used for CJ Corona’s trial not going to the dust bin?
