CHANDIGARH, India (Thu, Apr 19) – Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) comprehensively by 8 wickets in the 22nd match of IPL 2012 played yesterday night here at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Chandigarh.
Gautam Gambhir, the captain of KKR, led by example by an unbeaten 66-run knock off just 44 balls to lead his team to the third victory in this season.also played his role contributing by 30 off 23 to ease up the target of 125 set by Punjab (KXIP).
KXIP won the toss and elected to bat first; but(40 off 30) and Shaun Marsh (33 off 30) were the two main contributors to the total of 124/7. No other batsmen succeeded to get into double figure except (10 off 14). KKR bowlers kept a very tight line to curtail the host’s batsmen silent throughout their batting. and Sunil Narine picked up 2 wickets each for KKR.
Gautam Gambhir was named man of the match. “We have a quality side and today we played to our potential. I think we have five quality bowlers in our lineup. The way Lee Kallis and Rajat bowled was brilliant. We have played an extra game compared to other teams so we need to keep winning. I think the bowling today was the high point. I honestly believe my man of the match is Rajat Bhatia for the way he bowled today,” he said during presentation after the match.
KKR now moved two ladders upward with this victory, improving from 5th to third spot on points table. KXIP is still placed on the 7th spot; while Rajasthan leading the table followed by Pune. Detailed points table is presented above.
