Office of the Ombudsman asks the Sandiganbayan Fourth Division to suspend the former President Gloria Arroyo as a Congresswoman of Pampanga in her hometown.
Arroyo pleads not guilty to the graft cases she is facing now in relation to the contract of National Broadband Network(NBN)- Zhongxing Telecommunication Equipment(ZTE) deal. Ombudsman said that suspension of Arroyo is the normal process for those cases involved by any government officials.
Ombudsma cited,” Under Section 13 of Republic Act (RA) No. 3019, as amended, otherwise known as the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, the suspension of a public officer against whom a valid information has been filed for any offense defined and penalized under said Act or under Title 7, Book II of the Revised Penal Code or for any offense involving fraud upon government or public funds or property whether as a simple or as a complex offense and in whatever state of execution and mode of participation, is mandatory.”
Arroyo bailed P70,000 for temporary freedom on the two counts of graft case under the Republic Act (RA) No. 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.
Along with Gloria Arroyo in this graft case is her husband Jose Miguel Arroyo and former COMELEC chairman Benjamin Abalos. Sr.
