More than 140 schoolgirls in Afghanistan have been hospitalized after they drank poisoned water in school – it is presumed that the poisoning had been done by those radicals who oppose education of girls.
This news from Afghanistan has been revealed by The Australian dated 18th April 2012.
All the girls study in a high school in the town of Rustaq in the northeast province of Takhar and had drank water from the tank in the school premises.
While the police are investigating the incident, Abdul Saboor, a spokesman of the Education ministry has requested people not to jump to conclusions.
There was a time when the Taliban had vehemently opposed education for girls but, the situation has changed and girls do go to school. However, there have been incidents in the past when the girls were subjected to gas attacks.
