Three men in their early 20s stole a Fairy Penguin from the SeaWorld in Gold Coast and bragged about it on Facebook – that was their undoing.

They are now in the police net on charges of trespassing, stealing, and keeping a protected animal unlawfully.

This has been reported in nzherald.co.nz of 16th April 2012.

It was the first ever theft of an animal from the Sea World in Gold Coast and the authorities had been worried because Dirk, the stolen Fairy Penguin had no chance to survive in the harsh world outside. It would have been easy prey for a bull shark during the day or dogs and cats at night.

The Facebook has been criticized on many occasions and a section of people believe that this social networking site is having a bad influence on the minds of youngsters. But – FB does have its good points as is evident from the nabbing of the penguin thieves.

It makes me wonder why would a person use a social website like Facebook that they committed a crime like stealing a penguin?
