Manila, Philippines: In round 8 after devastating his ring opponent, a Filipino boxer was adjudged TKO winner over his Columbian foe.
Lightweight boxer Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta, 24, claims his 13th knockout victory versus Oscar Cuero, 26. Cuero holds a record of 15 wins and 8 losses while Gesta tallies 25 victories, 0 losses and 1 draw.
The Gesta-Cuero match opens the Brandon Rios-Richard Abril event that took place Saturday night, April 14 at Mandalay Bay Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Referee Robert Byrd stopped the fight at 1:38 in the 8th round after Gesta’s hard right to the head floored Cuero. In the 7th, the Columbian also hit the canvass after receiving a hard body shot from the Cebuano.
According to Top Rank president Todd DuBoef, Gesta has been knocking on the title’s door. In fact Gesta has presented himself to fight versus Rios after his original opponent- Yuri Gamboa backed out. But Abril was chosen instead.
With an unblemished record of 25 victories with 13 wins via the short route, “No Mercy” Gesta deserves a crack at the title.
