An athlete from Malaysia who happens to be a pregnant will compete at the London Olympics.
Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi will be eight months pregnant when she competes in the Olympic Shooting Events using an 10mm air rifle. Both her docotr and the Malaysian Olympic officials have approved her ability to compete and her husband supports her decision to continue on to London, even while in the last trimester of her pregnancy.
Suryani was already qualified for the games at the Asian Shooting Championships and when she discovered that she was pregnant. “My aim is to compete for the Olympic”, she says. "Maybe, at the end of June, if I have some problem that would jeopardize the baby inside me, I will reconsider whether I am going or not. But I feel I am strong and my husband says 'as long as you feel like that, energized to do that, it seems like that is your baby talking to you so you go,'" she added.
Suryani will leave Malaysia for London before the opening ceremony since doctors recommends her not to travel after 35 weeks of her pregnancy.
