Over the past year Icelandic Ambient rockers Sigur Ros took a little time off to recoup and have babies, all except lead singer Jonsi; but the band is back and ready to rock with a new album and tour. First the new album “Valtari” will be released on May 28; and then the band will tour North America and Europe over the summer.
“Valtari” was recorded in the band’s own studio – Sundlaugin – formerly a swimming pool. “Valtari” means steamroller in Icelandic. Bass man Georg Holm said the album is like, “looking at an old landscape painting;” and lead singer Jonsi Birgisson called it, “an avalance in slow motion.”
Keeping with tradition, there will be no English on the new album. Sigur Ros albums are sung either in Icelandic or a language created by Jonsi.
