While warming up for a game this week, a 12-year-old sports enthusiast and a sixth-grader has died in Oswego, Illinois, 50 miles southwest of Chicago, after being struck in the neck by a baseball.
The Chicago Tribune reported that Eric Lederman was hospitalized after being hit while hurling a ball with a teammate Wednesday night before a league game in Wheaton. He died Thursday night, leaving his local community in distress.
Brian Zacker, the coach of Eric’s baseball team said that he was an inspiration to his teammates, coaches and baseball family. He played with a contagious smile and played the game with great passion and heart.
John Thorson, executive director of Oswego Softball and Baseball Association said that officials were working on plans to set up a memorial for the Lederman family.
