A friend in need is a friend indeed. That’s what exactly what Zambia has shown to Malawi.
In a spirit of good neighborliness and understanding Malawi's critical area, Zambia’s President Michael Sata has extended his country’s generosity offering fuel to the mourning fuel-starved Malawi.
Other than its estimated normal consumption of one million liters per day, Malawi will in the next 30 days or so obviously need huge supplies of fuel to properly manage funeral transport programmes of the departed head of state Professor Bingu wa Mutharika.
The Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) has disclosed that the Zambian Government has donated five million liters of fuel to facilitate funeral arrangement of the late Mutharika.
Zambia’s Minister of Mines, Energy and Water Development Christopher Yaluma, the Chief Secretary revealed, is expected to arrive in Malawi, for a symbolic hand over ceremony of the donated fuel to the Malawi Government.
And in that respect, Her Excellency Malawi President Joyce Mtila Banda has expressed gratitude for the wonderful and timely donation Michael Sata’s government has extended to her government during this difficult time.
Cardiac arrest robbed Malawi of President Bingu wa Mutharika April 5 2012.
Professor’s Bingu wa Mutharika body is expected in Malawi Saturday April 14 and burial is scheduled April 23, 2012, the special committee of the funeral programme has disclosed.
