North Korea missile launch

North Korea launched a missile tonight despite warnings against it from the world community. However, shortly after launch, the missile broke up into pieces.

The three stage rocket was described by North Korean officials as a satellite, but the US government believed it to be part of a military program aimed at developing intercontential ballistic missiles capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.

The failed missile was launched near the North Korean border near China. According to ABC News, "the missile is believed to have crashed into the sea."

If the missile test had been sucessful, it would have proven North Korea's ability to launch a missile capable of reaching the United States.

The White House is expected to make a statement on the North Korean missile launch incident on Thursday evening.
