US Sues Apple and Publishers Over E-Book Prices

Apple Inc. and major book publishers were sued Wednesday April 11, 2012 by the Justice Department in 15 states. They state Apple is trying to raise the price of electronic books that cost consumers $100 million over the past year. They managed to add $2-5 dollars to the price of each electronic book.

According to Attorney General Eric Holder , the companies highest executives motives were to get rid of the competition in the electronic books market.

Sharis Pozen who is the Justice Departments antitrust chief said the executives wanted to get Amazon.com, the maker of the Kindle E-reader to raise their $9.99 price of their most popular books that is a lot lower than hardback books.
