News have leaked out that Uzbekistan is secretly sterilizing its women without their knowledge and, obviously, without consent as reported in BBC of 12th April 2012. This is a gross violation of Human Rights.
Apparently, a silent campaign has been launched by the Uzbek authorities to sterilize women in the reproductive age group. It seems specific targets are given as annual plans to doctors of the number of contraception and sterilizations that they must achieve within a specific timeframe.
One of the doctors had confided to a BBC reporter that her quota was four women per month.
The basic intention of these operations is to control the population growth
From available information with the Expert Working Group, in 2010 alone more than 80,000 sterilizations had been done – this is data gathered from a seven-month survey of medical professionals but, there is no way to verify the figures.
