The actor and director,starred opposite the late Whitney Houston in the original 1992 film Body Guard, revealed that the Princess of Wales wanted the sequel's lead role before her sudden death in 1997.
Costner, who in real life was reportedly close to Diana after her split from, admitted during his interview with journalist of CNN, that he was keen for the late Princess of Wales to take on the romantic lead for the sequel.
Talks were so advanced that Costner had employed a writer, who delivered a script to him on 30 August 1997, the day before Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris.
“I told her I would take care of her just the same way that I took care of Whitney.
“She wanted me to write it for her. I said, ‘I'll tailor it for you if you're interested.’ She goes, ‘I am interested.’
The sequel was going to feature Kevin's character helping the princess to escape from the paparazzi and stalkers before becoming embroiled in a love affair.
