did not even bother to show to hear his 12th denial for parole. The murder of seems like only a distant memory to most readers, but the reality of the brutality exhibited by Manson and his so-called family is very real. The song “Helter Skelter” brings back images of violent murders that rocked America at her core. Manson represents what is considered to be truly evil in America and fascination with him, his families and the murders they committed seems to stay at ultimately high levels.
Manson vowed to hold a race war and had his blind followers do his dirty work. His tales of the pending apocalypse fueled the fire on hatred and murder. Sharon Tate, the young bride of director Roman Polanski was eight months pregnant at the time of her murder. Four others were murdered at that location the same evening. Leno and Rosemary LaBianca were murdered in their Beverly Hills home. Messages were left on the wall written in the blood of the victims saying “DEATH TO PIGS” and “HELTER SKELTER”. These images do not silently slip away and have been the source of many nightmares to Americans since these murders in 1969.
Manson was 34 at the time of the murders- he is 77 years old now. Manson will not be eligible for parole until he turns 92. He apparently gave up hope for being paroled since he has failed to appear in several different hearings. His life has not been that of a model prisoner either. He has continued to get in trouble while incarcerated. He “has been caught in possession of a weapon, threatened a peace officer, and has been caught twice with contraband cell phones in the past three years” according to Calif. Department of Corrections spokeswoman Terry Thornton.
Manson was originally sentenced to death for the seven murders, but California overturned their death penalty in 1972. In 1977 his death sentence was modified and changed to “life in prison with the possibility of parole”. Prior to the parole hearing, the attorney for Manson said he would like to see him transferred to a hospital instead of the prison. Someone like Manson should remain behind bars to let the public know that they are safe at night. He is dangerous and his release from prison would put others in jeopardy.
