Apple and major book publishers sued over e-book pricing

Apple Inc. and major book publishers of the United States were sued by the U.S. Department of Justice over e-book pricing. At least five publishers- Simon & Schuster, HarperCollins, Hachette, Penguin and Macmillan have reportedly conspired with Apple to fix higher prices for Apple e-books during the launch of the Apple iPad tablet and iBookstore in 2010, reported the Yahoo News. For that reason Amazon was forced indirectly to raise the e-book prices on the rival Kindle.

The first three publishers mentioned above have already made settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice. But Apple Inc., Penguin and Macmillan are planning to fight the lawsuit, reported the Bloomberg.
