On Tuesday, police received a desperate 911 call from Karyn Kay, an English teacher and author. The 63-year-old woman told cops that she was under attack; by her son Henry Wachtel, who had a seizure. Hours later, the poor woman died at Cornell Hospital. Henry was charged Tuesday night for the brutal murder of his own mother.
According to the horrifying details, the incident occurred at a Manhattan apartment whereby Karyn used to live with her son for nearly 5 years. In her 911 call, the mother told cops that her son Henry was beating her up while under a seizure. Responding almost immediately close to 9:30 a.m., the cops arrived at the given address i.e. W. 55th Street at Eighth Avenue only to find the elderly woman badly beaten. Face-up, Karyn was completely unconscious; she lay motionless on the living room floor, said cops.
Police sources further said that Kay was screaming over the phone while telling the 911 operator about the attack. The 19-year-old Henry had a seizure when all of a sudden, he started beating her. Several next-door neighbours told cops they were alerted to the horrifying shouting. One of them said Henry would be heard repeatedly saying aloud ‘I’m sorry mommy! I’m really sorry!’When arrived at the scene, the cops found Wachtel there; covered in the blood of his own mother.
Brought to the Midtown North Precinct stationhouse, the teenage was being questioned on Tuesday evening, conveyed the sources. With severe trauma, the poor woman was taken to Cornell Hospital; she had fractured skull, fractured eye socket and also broken. At around 1:52 p.m., she succumbed to her injuries, police said and added there was no indication whether Wachtel used a weapon. The youngster kept apologizing to the unconscious woman even while being taken away in handcuffs.
However, his poor mother was not moving at all while her face was covered up by paramedics, using a cloth. Kay used to serve at the famous La Guardia High School and her name was listed among the visiting instructors, at Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute.
