Impoverished and cut off North Korea whispered on Tuesday it was all set to advance with its projected long-range rocket launch, a message that sparked instant condemnation from South Korea and Russia and is denounced by its stanch ally China with a plea to calm down.
The launch of the Unha-3 rocket goes contrary to the United Nation imposed sanctions, which bars North Korea from developing a rocket/missile capable of carrying nuclear weapons and on the other way, North Korea comments that it will simply put a weather satellite into a space, which is not at all the breach of UN Sanctions as proclaimed and propagated by its opponents.
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said a press briefing in Beijing that “It had repeatedly voiced its apprehension on the developments of such Missiles”
China which has previously watered-down, the effect of United Nation sanctions on North Korea economically and diplomatically, had its requests to calm down and be pragmatic.
The former stanch allay Russia, which has bailed North Korea before in crunch times through its economic ties has candidly criticized the said program.
Alexander Lukashevich, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman in state owned news agency RIA quoted that, “We believe Pyongyang's decision to carrying out a launch of a satellite an example of disrespect for U.N. Security Council decisions,”
On the other hand, North Korea called the launch its prerogative and sovereign right
Ryu Kum-chol, Vice Director of the North Korean Central Space Committee said, “The total weight of the satellite is 100 kg and if it was a nuclear weapon, it would still have no or little affect” and he called it a rumor rather than a reality.
Ryu Kum-chol said that, “The launch of the Kwangmyongsong-3 satellite is the gift from our people to our great leader”. The launch is expected on the100th Birthday celebrations of the founding father of the state, Kim Il-sung, whose grandson, Kim Jong-un, now the head of state.
The South Korea and The Western states has called the launch as a camouflaged ballistic missile test by a country which walked out of so-called six-party disarmament talks three years ago.
The Korean conflict that ended on the papers with a treaty after a period of war 1950-1953, remains in principle at war ever since than.
South Korea, warned Pyongyang it would intensify its loneliness and will further engulf from the world if it went ahead with the launch.
